Welcome to BikeKinston
Kinston's a great place to ride a bike. It's flat, it's relatively small, and there are lots of great side routes to allow you access all over town without making you face busy main roads.
We want promote bike riding, bike safety, and proper bike-riding basics.
"In North Carolina, the bicycle has the legal status of a vehicle. This means that bicyclists have full rights and responsibilities on the roadway and are subject to the regulations governing the operation of a motor vehicle. North Carolina traffic laws require bicyclists to: Ride on the right in the same direction as other traffic; Obey all traffic signs and signals; Use hand signals to communicate intended movements; Equip their bicycles with a front lamp visible from 300 feet and a rear reflector that is visible from a distance of 200 feet when riding at night." -- from NCDOT webite

If you see a bike rack in Kinston, please snap a photo and email it to us, along with info on where you saw it and whether it was useful to you. And be sure to thank the business that provided it.
Here's great example. City Hall added a bike rack. It's simple, and it's in the right place if you're visiting city offices. Thanks to Mayor BJ Murphy and the folks that made this one happen.
Our second focus is improving the riding environment. We would like to see bike paths and greenways that make some of the less accessible areas more safely accessible on a bike or on foot. There are discussions about greenway development in Kinston, and we would like give the biking community the information needed to be supportive of these efforts.
